Abstract

Objectives: Aim-To correlate fasting blood glucose levels with PASI (psoriasis area severity index) Objective- • To measure fasting blood glucose levels in patients of psoriasis and screen for diabetic psoriatic patients • To measure the psoriasis area severity index clinically • To correlate fasting blood glucose and psoriasis area severity index in diabetic psoriatic patients Introduction: Psoriasis a is a chronic , inflammatory, proliferative condition of skin, with genetic and environmental influences having a role in its etiology and pathogenesis . The research addresses the question IS THERE A POSITIVE CORRELATION BETWEEN PASI (PSORIASIS AREA SEVERITY INDEX) AND FASTING GLUSCOSE LEVELS OF PSORIASIS PATIENTS This would contribute to the growing evidence of similar pathways for inflammation in psoriasis and diabetes mellites, screening of psoriasis patients with diabetes mellites, and basis for better control of both diseases due to their impact on each other. Materials / method: STUDY DESIGN – Analytical observational cross sectional study SETTING- BRAMH skin OPD DURATION OF STUDY- 1 year STUDY POPULATION- all cases (males and females ) of psoriasis attending skin and VD Department OPD at BRAMH INCLUSION CRITERIA- patients of psoriasis age >18 and willing to be included and to sign informed consent , on screening diagnosed as diabetic EXCLUSION CRITERIA -All cases taking systemic drugs known to precipitate psoriasis, All cases taking systemic drugs known to regulate blood glucose/precipitate hyperglycemia Severe systemic disease Pregnant female Results: There was a strong positive correlation (correlation coefficient value 0.707) between PASI and FBS in psoriatic diabetic patients. Conclusion: There is a significant positive correlation between psoriasis area severity index and fasting blood glucose levels in diabetic psoriatic patients. Larger studies are required to corroborate the results as well as further studies to evaluate the role of antidiabetic drugs in psoriasis.
