Objectives: Complications of facial cosmetic botulinum toxin A injection: An update literature review and a parallel from cases sent to IMCAS ALERT - INJECTABLES (8 years]. Introduction: Cosmetic procedures have increased manifolds all over the world. Injectable treatments like botulinum toxin are becoming more popular owing to their rapid, well- defined, and lasting results for the reduction of facial fine lines, wrinkles, and facial rejuvenation. These treatments are quite safe but can have certain minor adverse effects. Materials / method: We analyze adverse events of facial cosmetic BoNT-A injections reported in the recent literature. A systematic search of MEDLINE and EMBASE was performed for studies reporting complications after cosmetic BoNT- A to assess complication rate. IMCAS ACADEMY being the most important e-learning platform on this subject, we draw a parallel with these data of literature and such cases received for guidance from IMCAS ALERT INJECTABLES in its 8 years of existence/activity. Conclusion: Botulinum toxin is a powerful medication that has been used to treat various conditions in recent years. Knowing the anatomic landmarks, muscle function, identifying baseline asymmetry, accounting for potential migration of the toxin, and site-specific precautions can mitigate the incidence of unwanted adverse reactions. Cosmetic BoNT-A injections can be considered safe, and most complications are mild and transient.
