Objectives: 1. The importance of the structure and the chemical composition for the perfect revitalizing effect
2. Degradation, absorption and mechanism of action in biorevitalizing threads
3. Histological changes after implantation of the sutures
4. The innovation of new threads in poly-(lactic acid -caprolactone) in special polimerization
5. Patient selection and post treatment care
Introduction: Absorbable barbed threads are present on the aesthetic medical market for more than 15 years. They represent a valid alternative to standard surgical procedures and have considerable advantages in terms of:
• practicality
• recovery time
• versatility of use
In recent years, barbed threads are finding indications not only in treatments for repositioning soft tissues, but also as a valid method for restructuring the dermal layer.
The use of barbed sutures in this field has indeed proved to be very effective, visibly improving skin elasticity and tone.
Materials / method: A new type of threads in poly-(lactic acid -caprolactone) in special polimerization are designed for long-lasting revitalization of facial and body tissues was evaluated. The evaluation process took into consideration several practical aspects related to both the introduction patterns and to the effects on the tissue.
71 patients were treated over a period of one year and subsequently monitored for the following two years; patients were aged from 35 to 65.
Results: The clinical study was evaluated taking the following into account:
•Dermatological control
•Measurements with specific evaluation tools (ultrasound / elastometry)
•Statistical analysis of data
•Subjective evaluation of the patient by self-assessment
The results obtained in the study confirm the notable fibrotic stimulation given by the suture, verified by ultrasound evaluation both and after 6 months and 12 months.
Conclusion: The use of this type of suture allows to obtain an immediate, visible effect due to the mechanical action of tissue repositioning, verified and confirmed through ultrasound a few days after implantation.
The follow-up after six months from the realization of the procedure confirmed that the visible lifting of the tissues significantly increased.
This result is due to the presence of the suture in the subdermal layer and the fibrosis stimulated by the latter and by the barbed structure of the suture.
