Objectives: To compare the lifting effects of intradermal injection of BTXA and the lifting effects of exosome combined with the intradermal injection of BTXA.
Introduction: In recent years, intradermal injection of BTXA has been reported to be effective for treating wrinkles due to skin lifting. The mechanism of action behind the intradermal injection of BTXA has been accredited to the induction of fibroblast contraction and the stimulation of collagen production. Exosomes have recently gained much attention for their effects on promoting the regenerative and restorative capacity of aged or damaged skin. Exosomes are hypothesized to improve keratinocyte and fibroblast function, enhancing collagen and elastin synthesis, and increasing dermal fat.
Materials / method: The skin-lifting effects of the intradermal injection of BTXA and the skin-lifting effects of exosome combined with the intradermal injection of BTXA were examined by conducting a side-by-side study with 30 female subjects between the ages of 30-60. One side of the subjects’ faces was injected only with BTXA. The other side of the subjects’ faces was injected using a combination protocol of exosome with the intradermal injection of BTXA. The skin lifting effectivenesses of both protocols was analyzed using Quantificare 3D LifeViz Mini.
Results: When analyzed using Quantificare 3D LifeViz Mini, the sides treated with the combination of exosome and botulinum toxin showed more lifting up to 4mm when compared to the sides treated with only botulinum toxin.
Conclusion: The results from this study demonstrated the lifting effects of exosomes. The combination treatment of exosome with the intradermal injection of BTXA provides a comprehensive solution to the treatment of facial wrinkles and anti-aging.
