Contouring effect of calcium hydroxyapatite/CMC for buttock enhancement: a comprehensive evaluation
Objectives: To investigate the efficacy and safety of Radiesse for buttock enhancement, focusing primarily on its contouring effects rather than traditional skin quality improvement, as well as reviewing the financial viability of the procedures for practitioners and patients, proposing a change in approach for professionals from a business perspective, aiming to make treatments financially viable for patients, and yet profitable for practitioners.
Introduction: The demand for non-surgical body contouring procedures has surged, with patients seeking effective alternatives to invasive surgeries which are often costly, unpredictable and involve major down time. Cost has been a major deterrent for non surgical body treatments due to large volume needed to treat and the fact that practitioners charge ‘per syringe’ for treatments, many times making the procedures non financially viable to patients. CaHa/CMC have bio stimulating and volumetric enhancing regenerative properties and reasonable longevity, and we aim to asses its viability for the purpose.
Materials / method: Patients seeking buttock enhancement were treated using CaHa/CMC. Patients were selected according to the degree of volumetric deficit and skin laxity. Treatment protocols involved using Undiluted CaHa and CaHa Diluted with NS 1:1. Patients were treated with 3 or 4 syringes per side, and treatments were repeated 6 weeks after. Outcomes were measured using standardized 2D imaging pre- and post-treatment at 6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months, alongside patient-reported satisfaction scores evaluated through a standardized questionnaire.
Results: Results indicate a significant improvement in the countour of the treated areas and mild volume increase in buttock volume post-treatment, with a mean volumetric increase noted immediately post treatment and at 6 weeks evaluation. The 3 and 6 months evaluation showed sustained results with no to minimal loss. Improvements in contour definition and aesthetic appeal were reported by all participants at the initial evaluation. Adverse events were minimal, with transient swelling and bruising observed in a small percentage of patients, resolving without intervention.
Conclusion: The number of patients seeking non-surgical buttock treatments is highly underestimated. CaHa/CMC treatments for buttock enhancement can be employed in clinical practice as a safe and effective treatment for patients seeking non-surgical buttock enhancement on patients with mild/moderate volumetric deficit. Financial viability for patients, which has been a major deterrent to having such procedures, can be addressed by changing usual approach of 'charging per syringe' to 'time based earning', making this approach a profitable option for practitioners and yet affordable option for patients.
