Objectives: Our research aims to introduce a new triple precursor technology (Pro-GHL) designed to deliver superior tone and skin barrier benefit through de novo biosynthesis in the skin.
Introduction: The epidermis acts as the body’s primary defense, relying on components like lipids, hyaluronic acid (HA), and Glutathione (GSH) for barrier function, hydration, and resistance to oxidative stress. However, limitations in topical applications of these biomolecules call for novel approaches.
Materials / method: In vitro and ex vivo studies were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of Pro-GHL in protecting against barrier disruption and hyperpigmentation. Three pigmented 3D skin models were employed, and skin explant under UV exposure was adopted. In a single-center, open label application study, we assessed the efficacy of the day serum system in 44 healthy female participants aged 25–45 years with spots over a 12-week treatment period. Clinical expert evaluation and instrument measurements were conducted at baseline, week 4, week 8 and week 12 post treatment.
Results: Pro-GHL demonstrated promising restoration and protection effects against barrier disruption and hyperpigmentation. The formulation containing Pro-GHL with SPF 50 showed improved superior performance over the one without UV filter. After 12 weeks of topical application, a significant improvement in skin evenness, hydration and reduction in spots was observed in week 12 compared with baseline.
Conclusion: In conclusion, the study introduces an innovative biostimulator skin care approach designed to target hyperpigmentation by combining a synergistic blend of three precursors for a comprehensive solution. The consistent results from in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo reinforce Pro-GHL’s potential as a novel, effective and comprehensive skincare approach to fortify skin’s defense system from within and prevent accumulation of tissue damages in response to extrinsic stressors.
