Restoring what was lost: a collagen-based approach to genital lichen sclerosus and genital rejuvenation
Цели: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Heterologous Type I Collagen (HTIC) in the treatment of Vulvar Lichen Sclerosus (VLS), a chronic inflammatory dermatosis that significantly impairs patients’ quality of life and remains challenging to manage due to the limitations of current therapeutic options. The presentation aims to explore the regenerative and reparative potential of HTIC in vulvar tissue, assess long-term clinical outcomes, and examine its broader applications in dermatologic and genital rejuvenation treatments.
Введение: Collagen, particularly Type I collagen, is a key structural protein in the skin, essential for tissue regeneration and repair. Injectable collagen has been extensively utilized in anti-aging treatments due to its ability to enhance dermal structure, improve skin elasticity, and stimulate neocollagenesis. This presentation will explain the mechanism of action of Heterologous Type I Collagen (HTIC), highlighting its evolution from aesthetic anti-aging applications to therapeutic indications in dermatology. The potential role of HTIC in genital rejuvenation will also be discussed, alongside clini
Материалы / методы: HTIC, in a dose of 100 mg dissolved in 4.5 ml of normal saline and 0.5 ml of lidocaine, was administered through intradermal or subdermal injections in a grid pattern at 1 cm intervals to the affected areas. Patients received four treatments at two-week intervals. The presentation will also evaluate HTIC’s effects on skin texture, elasticity, and patient satisfaction in the context of genital rejuvenation, along with a review of cases with extended follow-up to assess long-term outcomes.
Результаты: Patients showed significant improvement in VLS symptoms, with a reduction in lesion size observed after the first treatment and complete resolution by the third. Symptoms such as pruritus, soreness, and dyspareunia were notably relieved. Additionally, patients reported enhanced skin texture and elasticity in the genital area, contributing to improved satisfaction and well-being. Over a follow-up period of up to 6 years, treated cases demonstrated sustained benefits with minimal maintenance required, and no significant relapses were reported.
Заключение: HTIC emerges as a promising treatment for Vulvar Lichen Sclerosus, providing both therapeutic relief and aesthetic benefits through genital rejuvenation. The positive long-term outcomes observed in cases with extended follow-up support further research into HTIC as a valuable addition to treatment options for VLS and beyond. The presentation will address these findings, along with the underlying mechanisms, long-term efficacy, and broader implications for regenerative medicine.
