Objectives: Management of inflammatory reactions to injectable fillers remains a very challenging phenomenon in aesthetic medicine. The objective of the presentation is to arm aesthetic practitioners with some effective treatment strategies when confronted with such reactions.
Introduction: Injectable fillers are generally highly bio-compatible implant materials. Nevertheless, it must be appreciated that they are foreign bodies that may induce inflammatory reactions. As coordinators of IMCAS Alert: Injectables & Threads, we observe many submissions by colleagues relating to inflammatory filler reactions, both acute and delayed. These reactions are often alarming to both patients and practitioners.
Materials / method: A selection of challenging filler related inflammatory reaction presentations from the IMCAS Alert case submission files are referenced to illustrate how collegiate responses have assisted in the management of these cases.
Results: Collegiate responders from around the globe greatly assist colleagues who have submitted challenging cases. Pleasingly, collegiate consideration and discussion can formulate a sage management strategy for these often complex inflammatory case presentations.
Conclusion: Management of filler related inflammatory reactions can prove very problematic and at times quite refractory to attempts at treatment. IMCAS Alert contributors have evolved management strategies for these troublesome presentations. Ultimately all practitioners benefit by studying and participating in this type of collegiate forum.
