Rejuvenation effects of poly d, L-lactide microparticles
Objectives: The objective of this study effectiveness and safety of PDLLA on skin rejuvenation.
Introduction: Recently, poly-L,L-lactic acid (PLLA) as collagen stimulator is used for skin rejuvenation. However, irregular-shaped particles always pose a risk of nodules. Unlike PLLA, the polymer structure of poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA) is round, which makes PDLLA less rigid and has good tissue affinity. In recent cell and animal studies with several collagen stimulators, PDLLA demonstrated excellent effects in collagen and elastic fiber regeneration by increasing adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cell (AD-MSC) survival rate and decreasing the level of matrix metalloproteinase 2,3, and 9.
Materials / method: We investigated the efficacy of the PDLLA/HA dermal filler injection for skin rejuvenation on 17 patients who visited a dermatology department at Korea University Ansan Hospital. All patients received two or three sessions at four-week intervals.
Results: There are improvements in fine wrinkles, skin texture, skin tone, telangiectasia, and facial erythema. Forty-seven percent respond with 50% or more significant overall improvement. Additionally, the histological examination shows increased collagen and elastic fiber in the superficial dermis after the procedure. There are no treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) without transient facial erythema and pain during the procedure.
Conclusion: Therefore, our preliminary findings suggest that the PDLLA/HA dermal filler injection is a safe and effective method for skin rejuvenation.
