The MIRELA Technique (Minimal Invasive Robotic Endoscopic Lipoabdominoplasty) in aesthetic body contouring
Objectives: This study aims to demonstrate a minimally invasive approach to lipoabdominoplasty, assessing the benefits of robotic technology in the treatment of the muscular layer.
Introduction: In recent years, robotic surgery has expanded beyond traditional applications and is now emerging in aesthetic surgery. A significant advancement in this field is the development of the Minimally Invasive Robotic Endoscopic Lipoabdominoplasty (M.I.R.E.L.A.) technique, which builds upon the principles of the Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic Abdominoplasty (M.I.L.A.). Unlike M.I.L.A., which employs laparoscopic technology, M.I.R.E.L.A. integrates robotic-assisted surgery for the correction of rectus abdominis diastasis. This approach aims to enhance surgical precision while offering postoperative
Materials / method: A cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted through the evaluation of 20 patients who sought correction of diastasis via robotic surgery at the Sanfurgo Clinic in São Paulo, from July 2023 to June 2024.
Results: Out of the 20 patients, 19 had a history of previous pregnancies (95%). Additionally, 65% had an umbilical hernia, which was repaired during the procedure. 90% had a body mass index within normal limits, and 95% had a preoperative body fat percentage greater than 18%.
Conclusion: The findings provide valuable insights into the role of robotic surgery in plastic surgery, particularly for rectus abdominis diastasis correction, an area with limited existing literature. This technique shows potential for delivering optimal postoperative outcomes for patients while supporting the adaptation and skill development of plastic surgeons in this emerging field.
