Nasolabial fold mysteries: Tailored treatments for different kind of folds
Objectives: 1. Describe different morphological types of Nasolabial folds.
2. Demonstrate how different aesthetic procedures will help in particular type of NLF.
3. Demonstrate when we should opt for a combined approach.
Introduction: • Nasolabial folds (NLF) is one of the most commonly attended area in aesthetic practice world-wide. It is always the first area when a new aesthetic physician start injecting.
• Nevertheless, the aesthetic physicians are unable to give consistent results while filling the NLF. This is probably due to wrong patient selection, wrong choice of treatment and wrong technique.
Materials / method: • To explore the salient differences in the etiology and morphology of different types of nasolabial folds on the basis of PubMed research articles and ways to recognize these subtle but significant differences.
• To highlight the importance of assessment and planning before treating the NLF. As far as the treatment is concerned there is no single method that applies to all the folds but the choice of treatment, whether fillers, threads or toxins depends upon the type and severity of NLF.
Results: • The salient features in assessment of nasolabial folds will be demonstrated during the presentation with pictures of real patients who underwent various treatment modalities for the management of NLF.
• In this presentation results of HIFU, Botulinum toxin, fillers and thread lifts will be shown and explained how we will select a specific or combined procedure in a patient with particular types of nasolabial folds.
• It will also be stressed that it is not necessary to fill the NLF to correct it, lateral lift, cheek augmentation and pyriform fossa filling can all correct the NLFs.
Conclusion: 1. All NLF are not similar. They differ in their etiology, morphology and severity.
2. Similarly there is no one way to treat the NLF
3. In order to decide how to treat NLF you need thorough assessment of the patient and understanding of the available treatment options.
