The effects of GLP-1 inhibitors on hair health
Objectives: To evaluate the impact of GLP-1 inhibitors on hair growth, density, and overall hair health.
Introduction: GLP-1 inhibitors are increasingly used for metabolic conditions such as diabetes and obesity. Emerging evidence suggests potential effects on hair physiology, but systematic evaluation is limited.
Materials / method: A cohort of patients receiving GLP-1 inhibitors was assessed for hair density, thickness, and scalp condition over 6–12 months. Clinical evaluations, standardized photography, and trichoscopic measurements were performed. Patient-reported hair quality and shedding were also recorded.
Results: Preliminary findings indicate that GLP-1 inhibitors may influence hair density and thickness in a subset of patients, with variable effects depending on baseline metabolic status and duration of therapy. Side effects related to hair were minimal.
Conclusion: GLP-1 inhibitors may have measurable effects on hair health, highlighting the need for further investigation into mechanisms and long-term outcomes to guide clinical recommendations.
