Microfocused Ultrasound Associated with Bipolar RF at the Same Tip to Treat Facial Laxity
Objectives: To assess the clinical efficacy and safety of a novel energy-based device delivering simultaneous microfocused ultrasound (MFU) and bipolar radiofrequency (RF) through a single applicator tip for the treatment of facial skin laxity.
Introduction: Facial laxity is a prominent sign of skin aging, driven by cumulative collagen and elastin degradation. MFU and bipolar RF have independently demonstrated efficacy in inducing neocollagenesis and skin tightening by controlled thermal injury. MFU promotes focal heating in the dermis and superficial muscular aponeurotic system, while bipolar RF contributes additional volumetric dermal heating, enhancing collagen remodeling. Recent advancements have integrated both modalities into a single treatment platform to maximize synergistic effects and procedural efficiency.
Materials / method: Participants received a device with a combined MFU and bipolar RF tip treatment, delivering sequential energy at pre-set depths within the dermis and SMAS. Digital photographic analysis, and patient satisfaction were used for assessment. Safety was monitored throughout, with documentation of adverse effects.
Results: Patients exhibited visual improvement in midface lift and jawline definition. Patient-reported satisfaction was high, and side effects were infrequent and mild, including transient erythema and edema; no cases of significant dyspigmentation, nerve dysfunction, or scarring were observed.
Conclusion: Simultaneous delivery of microfocused ultrasound and bipolar radiofrequency through a single-tip platform is a highly effective, non-invasive treatment for facial laxity, achieving substantial tissue tightening and high patient satisfaction with minimal downtime or adverse effects. This combined approach optimizes collagen remodeling while reducing procedural time, representing a significant advancement in energy-based skin rejuvenation technologies.
