Microneedling radiofrequency with exosomes therapy for androgenetic alopecia: my experience
Objectives: Microneedling radiofrequency (MNRF) and exosome therapies have recently garnered attention as potential treatments for pattern hair loss (PHL). This study aimed to conduct a scoping review of these treatments and present a series of patients with PHL treated with MNRF followed by topical exosome application (MNRF-Exo) therapy.
Introduction: Alopecia is a common clinical complaint for patients and often a source of significant psychological distress. Various trials have been conducted on the management of male and female PHL, but the outcomes often seem to be limited. Adjuvant therapies are urgently needed.
Materials / method: Materials / method: 16 patients were enrolled in this scalp trial comprising 7 males and 9 females with androgenetic alopecia. Participants received five sessions of MNRF combined with topical plant-derived exosomes applied over the affected areas, at 4-week intervals. Clinical evaluations were conducted using macroscopic photographs and digital image analysis with a trichoscopy device at baseline, and then again at 3, 6, and 9 months post-treatment. The median follow-up duration was 10 months. Mean hair count and hair thickness, global assessment and adverse effects were assessed.
Results: After 5 months of treatment, mean hair count, hair density and hair thickness increased significantly, along with high patient satisfaction. No side effects were noticed.
Conclusion: Topical exosomes treatment combined with MNRF could be an effective and safe therapy for male and female pattern hair loss. However, randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm the efficacy of this therapy and to determine the optimal treatment parameters.
