Acne Scars Treated with Combination Microneedling Radiofrequency and Nd:YAP 1340 nm Non-Ablative Laser
Objectives: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of combining microneedling radiofrequency (RF) and Nd:YAP 1340 nm non-ablative laser modalities in the treatment of acne scars.
Introduction: Acne scarring is a prevalent and challenging dermatological issue, often resistant to single-modality therapies. Conventional treatments (ranging from chemical peels and microdermabrasion to ablative and non-ablative lasers) have variable efficacy and risk profiles. Fractional microneedling RF has emerged as an effective, minimally invasive approach for treating acne scars across various skin types, often outperforming non-ablative lasers in depth of penetration and remodeling capacity. Materials / method: Participants underwent a protocol of alternating sessions treatments of fractional microneedling RF and Nd:YAP 1340 nm non-ablative laser. Digital photographic analysis, and patient satisfaction were used for assessment. Safety was monitored throughout, with documentation of adverse effects.
Results: Digital analysis demonstrated a mean reduction in scar depth. Patient satisfaction was positive in the end of treatment. Adverse events were limited to mild, transient erythema and edema; no serious complications or postinflammatory hyperpigmentation were observed, confirming a favorable safety profile in all skin types.
Conclusion: The combination of microneedling radiofrequency and Nd:YAP 1340 nm non-ablative laser offers a highly effective and safe treatment option for acne scars, providing substantial clinical improvement with minimal downtime. This multimodal approach may represent an optimal strategy for refractory cases and patients seeking maximal results with low risk.
