Impact of GLP-1 on skin and hair
Objectives: GLP-1 receptor agonists are widely used in metabolic diseases and increasingly encountered in dermatologic practice. This lecture discusses the impact of GLP-1 signaling on skin and hair, focusing on metabolic–inflammatory pathways, insulin sensitivity, and the gut–skin axis. Clinical implications include effects on acne, inflammatory dermatoses, wound healing, and hair cycling, including telogen effluvium. Understanding these mechanisms helps dermatologists anticipate cutaneous changes and optimize care in patients using GLP-1–based therapies.
