Predictive factors of patient satisfaction after hair transplantation: a real-life study from a high-volume center
Objectives: Identify the main predictive factors of patient satisfaction after hair transplantation beyond graft count alone.
Understand the impact of preoperative expectations and patient selection on postoperative satisfaction.
Recognize the role of hairline design and donor area preservation in long-term aesthetic outcomes.
Apply practical strategies to improve patient satisfaction through optimized consultation, surgical planning, and communication in daily clinical practice.
Introduction: Despite technical advances in hair transplantation, patient dissatisfaction still occurs. Satisfaction is influenced not only by surgical results but also by expectations, communication, and donor management. Identifying predictive factors of satisfaction is essential to optimize patient selection, preoperative counseling, and surgical planning. This study aims to clarify these factors in a real-life clinical setting.
Materials / method: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 1000 patients who underwent FUE hair transplantation. Demographic data, alopecia pattern, graft number, donor density, hairline design, and preoperative expectations were collected. Patient satisfaction was assessed using a structured postoperative questionnaire. Statistical analysis identified correlations between clinical variables and satisfaction scores.
Results: Higher satisfaction was significantly associated with realistic preoperative expectations, conservative hairline design, and preserved donor area. Graft number alone did not correlate with satisfaction. Patients with extensive alopecia and unrealistic expectations showed lower satisfaction scores despite technically successful procedures.
Conclusion: Patient satisfaction depends more on expectation management and aesthetic planning than on graft quantity. Proper patient selection, communication, and donor preservation are key predictive factors for long-term satisfaction in hair transplantation.
