Fractional 1570 nm laser therapy in telogen effluvium - a regenerative approach for follicular reactivation through energy-based modulation
Objectives: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of a non-ablative 1570 nm fractional laser protocol for follicular reactivation and scalp microenvironment modulation in patients with Telogen Effluvium.
Introduction: Telogen Effluvium (TE) is a non-scarring alopecia characterized by premature transition of hair follicles from the anagen to the telogen phase, often triggered by systemic stressors or post-viral conditions. It reflects disruption in follicular signaling, microvascular support, and dermal homeostasis. Conventional treatments demonstrate variable efficacy and limited influence on long-term follicular cycling.
Materials / method: A total of 120 female patients with clinically and trichoscopically confirmed TE underwent three sessions of fractional non-ablative laser therapy at monthly intervals. The 1570 nm wavelength induced controlled dermal heating and microthermal zones, targeting follicular structures and surrounding tissue. Clinical evaluation included trichoscopy, hair-pull test, and digital imaging, alongside patient-reported outcomes. Follow-up was conducted three months after the final session.
Results: Improvement in hair density, follicular thickness, and scalp quality was observed. Trichoscopic evaluation indicated increased anagen activity and reduced shedding. Patients reported improved scalp comfort and reduced hair loss-related distress. No significant adverse events were observed.
Conclusion: Non-ablative 1570 nm fractional laser therapy provides a safe and effective method for follicular stimulation in Telogen Effluvium. The protocol supports restoration of physiological hair cycling and may be integrated into comprehensive hair restoration strategies.
