Photothermal activation of platelet-rich plasma: combined intravenous and facial injection for systemic and regenerative effects
Objectives: This presentation aims to introduce photothermal activation as a non-chemical method for platelet-rich plasma (PRP) stimulation and to evaluate its clinical application through combined intravenous and facial injection. Participants will understand the underlying mechanisms of photothermal-induced platelet activation, including sustained growth factor release and preservation of platelet integrity. The session will also review systemic and local effects, supported by pre- and post-treatment laboratory findings and clinical outcomes in skin quality improvement. Finally, the presentation will ex
Introduction: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been widely used in regenerative medicine for its ability to deliver concentrated growth factors that promote tissue repair and rejuvenation. Conventional activation methods rely on chemical agents such as calcium chloride or thrombin, which may induce rapid and non-physiologic platelet degranulation. Recently, interest has emerged in non-chemical activation techniques that better preserve platelet structure and function. Photothermal stimulation, using controlled light and mild heat, represents a novel approach to induce gradual and sustained release of growth f
Materials / method: A total of 120 mL of autologous blood was collected under sterile conditions and processed using a standardized centrifugation protocol to isolate platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The PRP was activated using a photothermal method with controlled light and mild heat, without chemical additives. The activated PRP was then divided for dual application: intravenous infusion for systemic evaluation and facial intradermal/subdermal injection using a multi-point technique. Blood samples were obtained before and after treatment to assess changes in growth factors, platelet activation, and inflammatory mark
Results: Post-treatment evaluations demonstrated a favorable systemic and local response. Laboratory findings revealed an improvement in liver function markers, along with a reduction in serum cholesterol levels following administration.
In addition, patients showed clinically observable improvements in facial skin quality, including enhanced texture, increased radiance, and overall skin rejuvenation.
These findings suggest that photothermally activated PRP may contribute to both systemic metabolic improvement and localized regenerative effects in the skin.
Conclusion: Photothermal activation of platelet-rich plasma provides a non-chemical, physiologically aligned method of platelet stimulation, enabling sustained release of growth factors while preserving platelet integrity.
This approach demonstrated dual benefits, including systemic improvements in metabolic markers and localized enhancement of skin quality following facial injection.
These findings suggest that photothermally activated PRP may serve as a promising strategy for both regenerative aesthetics and systemic therapy, warranting further controlled studies to validate its clinical efficacy.
