Periorbital skin rejuvenation with fractional 2910 nm Erbium laser and activated PRP via microchannel delivery
Objectives: Periorbital aging is characterized by early dermal thinning, fine rhytides, and loss of elasticity. Fractional 2910 nm erbium fiber laser has emerged as a precise modality for controlled skin remodeling with minimal downtime. However, variability in regenerative response and post-procedural recovery remains a clinical challenge. Biologic augmentation using platelet-rich plasma (PRP), particularly when activated and delivered through laser-created microchannels, may enhance treatment outcomes
Introduction: Patients with mild to moderate periorbital aging were treated using a fractional 2910 nm erbium laser with combined superficial fractional and focal microchannel (coring) modes. Immediately post-laser, autologous PRP activated via light and temperature modulation was applied topically to leverage laser-induced microchannels for enhanced delivery. Outcomes were assessed using standardized photography and Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) by both physicians and patients over follow-up visits.
Materials / method: 20 Patients with mild to moderate periorbital aging were treated using a fractional 2910 nm erbium laser with combined superficial fractional and focal microchannel (coring) modes. Outcomes were assessed using standardized photography and Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) by both physicians and patients over follow-up visits.
Results: The combined approach demonstrated consistent improvement in periorbital skin quality, including reduction of fine lines and enhancement of skin texture. GAIS assessments showed favorable outcomes across evaluators. Clinically, the addition of activated PRP was associated with faster recovery and reduced post-treatment erythema, suggesting a synergistic interaction between fractional laser-induced remodeling and biologically mediated repair.
Conclusion: Fractional 2910 nm erbium laser combined with activated PRP via microchannel delivery represents a safe and effective multimodal strategy for periorbital rejuvenation. This approach supports the evolving paradigm of integrating energy based devices with biologic therapies to optimize skin regeneration and clinical outcomes.
