Objectives: Minoxidil, whose clear mechanism of action is still unknown, is administered mainly topically in concentrations of 2-5%. Finasteride plays a key role in the treatment of AGA in men and in post-menopausal women. Dutasteride is an anti-androgen like finasteride. As it blocks both type 1 and 2 of 5 α reductase, it seems to be more effective in AGA in both oral and topical use.
Introduction: Alopecia is the disease that consists of generalized or localized hair loss situated in the scalp or the body. The most common types are androgenetic alopecia (AGA), alopecia areata, diffuse alopecia and cicatricial alopecia.
Conclusion: New, very promising autologous treatments include Stem Cells, Exosomes, Regenera but more clinical evidence is needed to establish the extensive use of them. Other, less common treatments, include medications such as corticosteroids, JAK inhibitors, hydroxychloroquine in autoimmune causes of hair loss, spironolactone in female AGA and Low Level Laser Therapy devices in various types of alopecia. It is very important to underline that conservative treatments are more effective in combination as they have a multiplying effect and the effectiveness lasts for as long as the treatments are used.
