Objectives: - Provide a concise review of key anatomical structures of the upper face (forehead and temples) to facilitate safe non - surgical procedures.
- To maximize efficiency and safety during dermal filler injections by enhancing anatomy knowledge.
- To demonstrate facial mapping and injection techniques by using the Iface simulator, a new learning- teaching approach for novice and advanced injectors.
Introduction: Non surgical treatments are becoming a popular alternative for facial rejuvenation and beautification.
Dermal filler injections are considered safe and efficient. However, this safety is under consideration due to rare but sometimes severe complications such as visual complications leading to blindness.
The upper third of the face is vulnerable to these complications due to the variable vascular anatomy and anastomoses between branches of the Internal and External carotid systems.
This webinar covers the main anatomical points of the upper face including layers and accompanying vasculature.
Materials / method: Review of the more recent literature of articles (e-journals), studies and anatomy books.
In addition to that the author demonstrates some tips for safer and efficient dermal filler injections on live models and the Iface simulator.
Results: The webinar covers in a succint manner the main and updated findings regarding anatomy applicable to injectables of the upper face (forehead and temples) and some helpful tips for safer outcomes.
Conclusion: A full knowledge of key anatomical structures and safer injection points would maximize efficiency and safety during dermal filler injections.
Clinicians should be kept up-to-date with new anatomical findings. A global nomenclature of key anatomical points would facilitate understanding of these structures.
The use of a simulator for facial mapping and training should be encouraged as this would boost injectors’ confidence, refine injection techniques and decrease the risk of complications.
