Objectives: At the conclusion of this learning activity, attendees should be able to:
1) Understand extracellular vesicles (EV), how they are used and made
2) Describe some of the data in exosome science
3) Be able to critically review the data and decide if/why one should employ exosomes in their clinical practice
Introduction: Exosomes, a form of extracellular vesicles are exploding in clinical usage, but the data regarding their usefulness, contents and clinical outcomes remains scant.
Materials / method: Use available evidence to boil down the science and bring attendees up to speed on what is out there/being studied in the field.
Results: Extracellular vesicles/exosomes are derived from a number of sources and produced in a number of different ways. This lecture will cover some of the science behind the sources, providing attendees with essential knowledge by which they can critically review available data and make decisions for their practice.
Conclusion: Describe the science behind EV and exosomes and consider whether to deploy in practice.
