Objectives: To expose several ways to treat field of actinic damages with photodynamic therapy (PDT). From conventional PDT to low-dose rate PDT, adaptive modalities, advantages and drawbacks.
Introduction: PDT is an effective treatment for actinic damages. Nevertheless, it was known as a painful treatment. From few years, low-dose rate PDT permits a painless and effective treatment.
Materials / method: We expose results of real life experience in medical office with two low-dose rate PDT devices : one light emitting fabric and one low-dose white LED light.
Results: The two devices are particularly comfortable for the patient and for the practitioner: painless, easy to set and safe. The long duration of the session (2h30) can be a problem for certain patients but a comfortable installation permits a very good experience for most of all. Efficacy can be improved with laser assisted drug delivery (erbium yag fractionated treatment of the field before application of the photosensitizer) with the same good tolerance during the session and very few adverse effects the days after.
Conclusion: Low-dose rate PDT is a safe, painless and easy way to treat skin actinic damages.
