Objectives: Dermoscopy is a non-invasive method for the in vivo study of pigmented skin lesions that permits to view parameters that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye. Over recent years dermoscopy has proved to be extremely useful even on dermatological pathologies of an inflammatory origin and skin parasitosis. The validity of dermoscopy in assessing skin cancers treatments with photodynamic therapy (PDT), has already been widely demonstrated. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the validity of dermoscopy before, during and after treatments.

Introduction: Over the last decade, the rapid development of new laser technologies has brought radical changes to clinical practice in dermatology, with huge increases in the treatment potential of pathologies that were very difficult to cure until several years ago, reducing to a minimum any scarring of the tissues
around the lesions. At the present time, laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) are able to resolve often disfiguring skin problems, with excellent patient compliance and shorter recovery times, thus replacing conventional surgical therapies which are not able to guarantee the same results.

Materials / method: One hundred and fifty patients (85 females – 75 males), Fitzpatrick skintypes I–IV with an age ranged from 16 to 82 years (median age 48.4), have been consecutively treated in a period between 2015 and 2018 for different skin pathologies with different laser sources. One hundred patients (55 females -- and 45 males) with an age ranged from 12 to 72 years (median age 43.2) have been treated with IPL. Dermoscopic pictures have been collected from each patient before, immediately after and at distance from the treatment.

Results: Seventy % of patients treated with different laser sources or IPL showed excellent results whereas 20% showed good results and 10% poor. Dermoscopy immediately after treatment of vascular lesions showed a change of color of vessels or the disappearence of them. Dermoscopy of pigmented disorders showed an increase of pigmentation immediately after treatment e the elimination or high improvement.

Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that dermoscopy could be considered as first level exam to evaluate the efficacy and potential side effects during laser or IPL treatments

Objectives: To summarize the indications for dermatoscopy use in aesthetic medicine.

Introduction: Modern aesthetic medicine is notable for significant advances, in particular in a field of instrumentation and laser technologies, which provide quick and pronounced aesthetic results for patients with different aesthetic problems. At the same time incorrect diagnosis followed by corresponding non-optimal treatment could lead to inadequate efficacy of treatment or even complications. Dermatoscopy is a non-invasive method of skin visualization, improving diagnostic performance of trained physicians.

Materials / method: We performed a systematic review of literature to examine the impact of dermatoscopy on decision making in aesthetic medicine. Literature search was conducted using terms “dermoscopy”, “dermatoscopy”, “rejuvenation”, “ageing”, “laser”, “melasma”, “wrinkles”, “photoageing”, “scar”, “telangiectasia”.

Results: This report will present a review of most important diagnostic and prognostic implications of dermoscopy in aesthetic medicine with emphasis on common as well as rare skin conditions and neoplastic lesions most often affecting facial skin and seen in aesthetic medicine. Main principles and rules of dermatoscopic diagnosis in aesthetic medicine will be presented.

Conclusion: Dermatoscopy is proved to be useful in differential diagnosis of neoplastic lesions as well as inflammatory dermatoses and hair disorders. Dermoscopy application in aesthetic medicine needs to be further validated.
