Objectives: The lecture will briefly describe masseter hypertrophy and its differential diagnosis, the differences in treating it with botulinum toxin compared to conventional tecnihques for mimic muscles, proper patient selection and injection techniques to achieve optimal results in lower facial contouring
Introduction: The main function of masseter muscle is to elevate of the mandible, but it plays an important morphological role in delineating the lower facial contour as well.
Potential causes of masseter hypertrophy include work (functional) hypertrophy from chewing, mental stress and bruxism or benign hypertrophy, secondary to an increased number of muscle fibers.
Materials / method: A series of treated patient is presented along with a instrumental evaluation of success rate: all of them have been treated my mean a standard injection technique
Results: The results are showed by patient pics and a quantitative evaluation is presented in order to further standardize the result
Conclusion: Injection of Botulinum toxin type A into masseter muscle is generally considered a less invasive modality compared to surgical alternatives, and has been advocated for cosmetic sculpting of the lower face, as presented.
