Objectives: Long Term Data Using A Novel 1726 nm Laser For The Treatment of Acne Vulgaris
Introduction: A variety of energy-based devices have been used treat acne. Many can induce some improvement in acne. However, once treatment is stopped acne flares are the norm. This is because none of these technologies impact directly on the sebaceous gland. 1726nm is directly absorbed by sebum and has no impact on melanin. This means this laser can be used in the treatment of acne in all skin types.
Materials / method: This talk will focus on not only our original 3-month data submitted to the FDA on the use of a 1726nm (AviClear, Cutera) laser for the treatment of acne, but will also look at 1- and 2-year data.
Results: Mechanism of action will be discussed; study parameters as well non-facial acne areas will also be reviewed.
Conclusion: This laser is the 1st ever laser FDA cleared for long-term clearance of mild, moderate, and severe facial acne. It can be used for other sebaceous related areas as well.
