Dr Rachna Murthy has been an NHS consultant oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeon since 2008. She trained as an ophthalmologist in London, Cambridge and Australia and heads the regional Thyroid Eye Disease Service for Cambridge University Hospitals as well as periocular skin cancer surgical reconstructions for Ipswich. She is passionate about education and is an experienced surgical teacher and tutor for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Also an accomplished sketch artist, Ms Murthy developed an interest in aesthetic medicine early in her career. She now uses her considerable surgical experience to provide subtle and predictable aesthetic outcomes for her patients in the private sector. Combining her passion for aesthetics and education she founded the Aesthetic Clinical Training Academy in Cambridge where she uses donor cadaveric material to teach anatomy as well as surgical and non-surgical approaches to facial aesthetics. As a leading consultant she considers safety for patients paramount; she now heads a global initiative to modify guidelines for filler-related complications and in particular the management of visual loss. Dr Murthy has been the academic organiser of and lectured at both national and international meetings. She has published extensively in the oculoplastic and ophthalmological literature. She is currently conducting studies into the use of aesthetic techniques and products to improve outcomes in hard to treat areas, and separately, for the treatment of periocular disease including thyroid eye disease and other oculoplastic disorders.
