Objectives: Discuss the need to address other reasons besides antibiotic resistance as causes of treatment failure.
Introduction: Resistant Acne has shown an increasing trend because of the rampant use of Antibiotics (both oral and topical). The need of recognising this entity and the correct management is very important. Varied other reasons such as Adult Acne are major contributors to treatment failures and need detailed understanding.
Materials / method: There can be multiple reasons for Resistant Acne. Hormonal Acne is one of the main causes of treatment failure and contributes significantly to the broad category of Resistant Acne. Other causes like Gram negative folliculitis, smoking, genetic predisposition etc also need to be considered.
Results: Better understanding of the factors causing resistance has lead to better treatment outcomes.
Conclusion: It is time perhaps to move away from only considering resistance as drug resistance as far as Acne is considered.
