Objectives: The aim of this presentation is demonstrate the special needs of male aging faces.
Introduction: While overall, the basic structure and function of skin is very similar between the genders, there are some important differences between male and female human skin that have to be taken into account if you think about cosmetic and aesthetic treatments.
Materials / method: This presentation will give an overview about the aging male face and its special demands based on the current scientific knowledge available in the current scientific literature.
Results: Men and women show great differences in their hormonal status, which has an important impact on skin structure and function. There is a general agreement that dermal thickness is higher in man. Skin thickness shows a decay with aging, but in men these changes are gradual, while in women skin thickness remains constant for many years and starts to decay in the fifth decade. Moreover, there are other major differences between male and female (immune system).
Conclusion: The cosmetic needs of the male face differs from those of the female face due to several factors.
