Objectives: As this will be a group discussion, the clinical case(s) will be presented by me in response to the group discussion. Included wil be a Powerpoint demonstration showing complications that could arise from female genital treatments: , including labioplasty. Some complications that have arisen in a small number of cases include:
Bleeding / Hematomas
Infection / Cellulitis
Edema
Seromas
Dehiscence (the most frequent)
Reactions to anesthesia / allergies
Suture reaction (granulomas)
Cutaneous necrosis
Energy burns
Dyspareunia
Introduction: As this will be a group discussion, the clinical case(s) will be presented by me in response to the group discussion. This is especially important given the recent advisories by the FDA.
Materials / method: As this will be a group discussion, the clinical case(s) will be presented by me in response to the group discussion. Included will be discussions concerning post-complication treatment procedures.
Results: As this will be a group discussion, the clinical case(s) will be presented by me in response to the group discussion. Results of both complications and post-operative treatment will be described.
Conclusion: It is essential that all doctors involved in labioplasty or other female genital procedures be aware of potential complications, take measures to prevent them, be aware of post-operative treatment of these complications. Although most medical practicioners and their staffs are highly trained and complications occur only in a minority of operations, we have a duty to alert our fellow practioners of these potential problems and solutions.
