Objectives: Rosacea has been usually classified by degrees understanding its a rather homogenous condition with different stages, but most experts realize some stages of Rosacea will never evolve into others. On top of that, there are patients with conditions different to Rosacea that benefit from similar treatments. New consensus is needed. We try here to bring our own experience and correlate to what other experts say about this matter

Objectives: To have an understanding of the different approaches required for optimal rosacea treatment with high efficacy and patient satisfaction

Introduction: Rosacea is a common inflammatory skin disease affecting predominantly the face. There are a number of classifications which can broadly be divided into inflammatory and vascular subtypes. Treatment is often challenging given the multifactorial and chronic nature of the condition with no single treatment modality showing superiority over the others.

Materials / method: A multimodal approach is used which includes managing the skin barrier as well as reducing the inflammation. Sun protection is used on every patient and tailored to skin type. The vascular component is treated with vascular laser and the treatment outcome is enhanced by applying a topical vasodilator which contains niacin which allows for a better laser interaction with the vascular component. Gut inflammation is treated and probiotics are used.

Results: Treatment outcomes have been significantly improved with the combination approach and in particular the pre-laser application of a topical vasodilator which has shown to improve the outcome of vascular laser on many patients.

Conclusion: Combination approaches to treat the inflammatory and vascular components of rosacea yield better results with the enhanced efficacy of laser treatments through the prior application of topical niacin as a vasodilator.

Introduction: To discuss updates in the medical and procedural treatments for rosacea with a focus on most recent advances in therapy as well as the importance of skincare in rosacea management.

Materials / method: Review of the current literature for innovative treatments for rosacea as well as a discussion of extensive clinical experience.

Results: Treatments for rosacea are most effective when tailored to the specific disease phenotype. Our rosacea armamentaria has significantly improved with a number of new treatment options developed in the last few years as well as several innovative technologies.

Conclusion: Rosacea is a multifactorial disease that should be treated with combination treatments with an emphasis on the phenotypic presentation of the patient. Procedural treatments like KTP and PDL lasers can be combined with oral medications and a variety of topical treatments for effective rosacea treatment. A discussion of skincare and rosacea triggers is also essential to management.
