Objectives: Picosecond lasers represent a novel group of laser devices characterized by ultrashort, picosecond pulse duration. They exert more potent photomechanical effects, leading to an enhanced disintegration of tiny pigment particles, compared with conventional nanosecond lasers. In Korea, aesthetic dermatology is flourishing and dermatologists have been actively applying picosecond laser in multiple dermatological indications.
Introduction: In this lecture, I’ll share my clinical experience using this picosecond laser for four common indications- tattoo removal, benign pigmentations, melasma, and acne scar. Especially, an innovative incorporation of a diffractive lens array enables laser-induced optical breakdown, leading to the improvement of atrophic scars and skin wrinkles with intact epidermis. For Asian skin, I believe picosecond laser use for tattoo pigment removal has exhibited notable success, and the use for other entities is rapidly expanding.
