Objectives: To present the modalities of this technique, to evaluate its effectiveness in the treatment of enlarged skin pores, and the absence of side effects on dark skin phototype.
Introduction: Topical carbon suspension combined with Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, known as carbon peel laser technique (CPL) or Hollywood peel, is widely used to improve skin quality with short downtime. Despite the popularity of this technique, with many information accessible on websites and magazines, only a few scientific data are available. The CPL technique was originally described in 1997 by Goldberg for laser hair removal and after having proven its efficacy on hair follicle, the technique has been extended to treat acne vulgaris and pores, as a significant reduction of pores size and sebum levels have
Materials / method: Evaluation on images (Visia-Reveal) of 3 sessions of CPL at 2 week-interval, in 3 patients, PT IV, with enlarged skin pores.
Results: Good improvement, with reduction in pore skin size without side effects.
Conclusion: Further studies are needed in order to find adequate protocols of treatment on larger patient samples to confirm the effectiveness of this technique in the treatment of enlarged skin pores and acne.
