Objectives: Guidelines and suggestions for chemical peels on skin of colour

Introduction: Chemical peels is one of the most effective procedure for uneven skin tone, anti ageing, pigmentation,fine lines and acne,However when dealing with skin of colour,choosing the right patient and peel is of foremost importance to avoid complications and for optimal results.

Materials / method: Various kinds of peels and indications will be discussed including the does and donts.

Results: Results will be discussed and suggestions will be made for optimal results and to avoid complications.

Conclusion: Peels is a very effective procedure, simple but yet challenging when it comes to skin of colour.In terms of value for money procedure this ranks among the top, however the unpredictable nature of the skin of colour possess a challenge to each and every case done on Fitz Patrick skin type 4,5 and 6.

Objectives: To present the modalities of this technique, to evaluate its effectiveness in the treatment of enlarged skin pores, and the absence of side effects on dark skin phototype.

Introduction: Topical carbon suspension combined with Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, known as carbon peel laser technique (CPL) or Hollywood peel, is widely used to improve skin quality with short downtime. Despite the popularity of this technique, with many information accessible on websites and magazines, only a few scientific data are available. The CPL technique was originally described in 1997 by Goldberg for laser hair removal and after having proven its efficacy on hair follicle, the technique has been extended to treat acne vulgaris and pores, as a significant reduction of pores size and sebum levels have

Materials / method: Evaluation on images (Visia-Reveal) of 3 sessions of CPL at 2 week-interval, in 3 patients, PT IV, with enlarged skin pores.

Results: Good improvement, with reduction in pore skin size without side effects.

Conclusion: Further studies are needed in order to find adequate protocols of treatment on larger patient samples to confirm the effectiveness of this technique in the treatment of enlarged skin pores and acne.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of a new in-motion technology for using broadband light off the face, looking at safety and efficacy.

Introduction: Broadband light has been long used for treating pigmentation, vascular and overall improvement in skin tone and texture. It has been predominantly and successfully used for facial treatment with great results. Body treatments with broadband light has been tedious with average results. The purpose of this study was to introduce a novel technology broadband light high energy rapid output that delivers higher energy at faster rate and still maintains the desired cooling achieving amazing results off face.

Materials / method: Over 50 male/female subjects age 18 years or older with mild to moderate sun damage on chest, arms, legs and/or back were treated. Each subject received up to 3 broadband light treatments, 3-4 weeks apart. Settings: 515 and 560 filter, 4-7J/cm2, 4 Hz, 250C cooling. Photographs were captured at baseline and during final visit.

Results: All subjects tolerated the treatment well. No burns, stripping, skipped pulses, infection or other complications noted. The treatment was quick and subjects were highly satisfied with the results. No adverse events noted.

Conclusion: High energy rapid output Broadband light device provides a safe and efficacious treatment for pigmentation by reducing the treatment time and providing a homogeneous treatment on different areas of the body.
