Objectives: 1. Understand the anatomy of the temple using ultrasound
2. Understand the different layers which injections are placed
3. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the different layers for injections
4. Show an ultrasound guided injection of the temple
Introduction: Injecting the temple with filler is becoming more popular. However, it is a complicated anatomic structure with significant vascular variants. A vascular occlusion in this area can be associated with blindness.
Materials / method: Dr. Weiner shows the ultrasound imaging of the temple and discusses the various anatomic layers and vascular structures. He discusses the pros and cons of placing fillers at 4 different levels. He introduces a safer technique in the interfascial plane using ultrasound guidance. Confirmation of the cannula placement is performed using saline which is then converted to HA. Upon completing, ultrasound is repeated to check filler placement and determine vascular integrity.
Results: NA
Conclusion: Ultrasound is a useful adjunct for the injector to improve filler safety in the temple. Dr. Weiner has shown a safer technique to injecting in the interfascial plane. HA filler injected in this plane has been shown to have a long duration and is an ideal choice for the temples.
