All you should know about the management of cicatricial alopecias

Objectives: We will discuss some important issues regarding the management of frontal fibrosing alopecia, lichen planopilaris and folliculitis decalvans.
1. Frontal fibrosing alopecia: the controversy of the association between sunscreens and FFA, relevance of oral dutasterida, proposal of a therapeutic algorithm.
2. Lichen planopilaris: platelet rich plasma, oral minoxidil and proposal of a therapeutic algorithm.
3. Folliculitis decalvans: lichenoid FD, relevance of microbiota and proposal of a therapeutic algorithm.

PRP in cicatricial alopecias

Objectives: PRP is being used as a new therapy for some types of non-cicatricial alopecia such as androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata and, recently, new insights refer to the possibility of action in the field of cicatricial alopecia, like lichen planopillaris and frontal fibrosing alopecia.

Objectives: Discuss if PRP could be considered a valid treatment option in some cicatricial alopecias

Clinical efficacy of popular oral hair growth supplement ingredients

Objectives: 1. Review popular over the counter hair growth supplement ingredients
2. Discuss current evidence supporting or undermining the use of each ingredient in oral supplements

Introduction: Nutritional supplements are regulated by the FDA as foods instead of drugs, meaning they do not have to prove their efficacy and safety before becoming available to consumers. Given these industry characteristics, it is important for dermatologists to be aware of the safety and utility of these ingredients to provide appropriate counseling to their patients. The goal of this review is to evaluate the efficacy of popular hair-growth oral supplement ingredients and formulations. This review does not address the topical formulations of these ingredients and their effects on hair growth.
