Objectives: The author invented 9-points injection technique(9-PIT) to lift lip corner only using HA filler. The lifting amount and shape after the injection were evaluated standardized 3D analysis. Using 9-PIT every doctor can reproduce and make balanced beautiful trendy lips.
Introduction: Lip-shaping and augmentation procedures with fillers can make younger looking appearance. The goal of lip-shaping and augmentation procedure is to lift lip-corner and to make balanced beautiful lip-shape with volumizing effect. For this, the author invented 9-points injection technique(9-PIT) to make trendy lips.
Materials / method: Small particle hyaluronic acid(sp-HA) dermal filler was injected for 50 patients using 9-PIT and followed up during 3-months. Lip-corner lifting amount was measured, and the changes of shape were evaluated using 3D-scanner analysis at 1-week post-treatment. Lip-angle(center of Cupid’ bow-lateral tubercle-commissure) was measured to evaluate lifting of lip-corner, and the lifted distance was measured around oral commissure in 3D-image. Also, curved length along upper peristomal silhouette line was measured.
Results: All patients were very satisfied with lip-shaping and lip-corner lifting. Angle of lip-corner decreased 8.80% from 158.7 to 144.4 degree, and lifting amount around oral commissure was 1.02mm in 3D-image at 1-week. The S-line on upper lip became more curvature, and became longer by 6.5% after the injection. The exaggerated S-line made lip-corners look higher.
Conclusion: Lip-corner lifting only using sp-HA showed good results. There was no spreading and no appearance of lips looking as if been stung by a bee, resulting in balanced beautiful shape of lips. 9-PIT made the curvature a more emphasized S-line with attractive shape, and lengthened actual S-line. In addition, creating upper lateral tubercles made the lip-corner look higher with optical illusion. 9-points injection map(9-PIM) can be a guideline with easy and detailed communication for injection method with scientific indicator.
