Objectives: The objective of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of cryolipolysis in reducing waist circumference among Asian individuals. The study aims to assess the impact of cryolipolysis treatment on four Asian participants and evaluate the changes in their waist circumference measurements following the procedure. The findings of this research will provide valuable insights into the potential benefits of cryolipolysis for waist circumference reduction in Asian individuals, thereby assisting in the development of personalized treatment strategies for body contouring in this population.
Introduction: Cryolipolysis is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that aims to reduce localized fat deposits by subjecting the target area to controlled cooling. There is limited information available regarding its effectiveness specifically in Asian individuals. The primary outcome measure of interest will be changes in waist circumference before and after cryolipolysis treatment. Waist circumference is a widely accepted indicator of abdominal fat accumulation and is associated with increased health risks such as cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders.
Materials / method: Four Asian participants ( females & male, aged 42-60) with central obesity (waist-to-hip ratio ≥ 0.85 for females, ≥ 0.9 for males) underwent cryolipolysis treatment using CoolSculpting Elite. Participants received 4-6 treatment cycles targeting the waist area and were followed up for up to 8 months. Body weight, Body fat to lean mass composition, Waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio measurements were collected at baseline and at specified intervals during the follow-up period. Pre and post treatment photos (including 3D Vectra ) were taken at baseline and follow up sessions.
Results: The results showed a notable reduction in waist circumference ranging from 3.8% to 10.6%, with an average reduction of 6.5% across the participants. Additionally, the waist-to-hip ratio decreased by 5.25% despite some participants gained their body weight during follow up. 3D Vector photos also show visible reduction in waist and central abdominal area in follow up sessions compared with before photos. These findings indicate that cryolipolysis treatment using CoolSculpting Elite effectively reduced waist circumference and improved waist-to-hip ratio in Asian individuals with central obesity.
Conclusion: This study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the efficacy of cryolipolysis as a non-invasive method for waist circumference reduction in Asian population. Further research with larger sample sizes and longer-term follow-up is necessary to validate these findings and explore the sustained effects of cryolipolysis on waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio in Asian individuals with central obesity.
