Objectives: This study evaluates non-invasive cellulite reduction treatments based on simultaneous application of monopolar radiofrequency (RF) and targeted pressure energy. The primary goal is to evaluate efficacy and safety. The secondary goal is to see if simultaneous application has benefits in non-invasive cellulite treatments.

Introduction: In this study we performed a clinical evaluation of simultaneously applied monopolar radiofrequency and targeted pressure energy as a new method for non-invasive treatment of cellulite in post-pubertal women.

Materials / method: Thirty women with bilateral thigh and buttock cellulite (mixed fibrous, adipose and aqueous types) received 4 treatments (~24min) on their gluteofemoral region (~1000cm2) using a simultaneous application of RF and targeted pressure energy (BTL UNISON, BTL Industries, Boston MA). Clinical improvement was assessed using a pentile grading scale and through patient satisfaction questionnaires. Hip and thigh circumference was measured. Results: The average clinical improvement score reached 2.17±0.95 (54% improvement). Cellulite was reduced in 93% of cases while 73% of patients showed good, very good or excellent improvement, with most significant improvement seen in patients with moderately severe cellulite. Hips and thigh circumference decreased on average by 2.31 cm and 2.13 cm, respectively (p<0.001). Patient satisfaction was very high, averaging 4.47±0.57 points (1-5 scale). Conclusion: Simultaneous application of the two energies is effective and safe for treating cellulite. The level of clinical improvement after 4 sessions is comparable to results reported after 6–20 sessions in studies which evaluated non-invasive cellulite reduction after using a standalone RF, laser or targeted pressure energy device. The simultaneous application of RF and targeted pressure energy represents a promising technology which deserves further attention and research.

Introduction: Cellulite is an all over problem for many female patients worldwide. The discussion if cellulite is a disease or only a genetical circumstance of life based skin condition in female is ongoing. The unknown pathophysiology and the difficulty in describing the different seventies of cellulite show the uncertainties doctors are facing in treating cellulite.

Objectives: Objective: Physicians are facing increasing demand for body contouring, creating pressure for emergence of innovative methods to deliver aesthetic improvement non-invasively to a wide range of patients. This study evaluates the efficacy of a high intensity focused magnetic technology (Emsculpt, BTL Industries, Boston MA) for abdominal body shaping as a new way of treating patients in aesthetic practices.

Introduction: Until now, there has been no clinically applicable device that addresses the muscle for aesthetic purposes. In addition, there is no noninvasive high intensity electromagnetic device that decreases abdominal wall fat AND increase muscle mass. We present here an MRI-based evaluation showing statistically significant improvements in both fat and muscle

Materials / method: Materials and Methods: In total 13 patients (5 female, 8 male, average age 36.0, BMI 24.8 kg/m2) received 4 treatments over umbilicus, 30 minutes each, separated by 2-3 days. Anthropometric evaluations were recorded and digital photographs were taken. The MRI without contrast determined by vertebrae T12 and S1 (FIESTA and FSPRG sequences) was used to measure fat and abdominal muscle thickness before the treatments and 2 months (±10 days) after the last procedure, in order to assess anatomical changes in abdominal tissues as a consequence of the application.

Results: Results: All patients tolerated the treatments well with no adverse events. Two patients reported mild muscle fatigue one day after the treatment. Analysis of the same MRI slices verified by tissue artefacts showed a statistically significant average 18.1±9.1% reduction of adipocyte tissue and 14.4±7.9% increase in muscle mass (p<0.001), coupled with measurable circumferential reduction. Fat changes were visible in all patients; one patient didn’t have any muscle growth reaction. The weight of the subjects didn’t change significantly.

Conclusion: Conclusion: MRI considered as a highly precise diagnostic method revealed significant simultaneous muscle growth and fat reduction 2 months post treatments, unrelated with dieting. This suggests the therapy as a unique solution for patients whose aesthetic problem isn’t driven by fat mass only, but also by the underlying muscle structure. This positions the treatment next to existing technologies, and opens physicians’ access to a completely new segment of patients who aren’t ideal candidates for stamping or suction based fat removal treatments
