Objectives: Lasers hair removal remains one of the most common procedures in cosmetic dermatology and it has always been challenging because of the higher competing epidermal melanocyte. It is also very intricate as the targeted hair chromophore is also melanin.

Introduction: As a result, to avoid unwanted side effects from laser therapy while maintaining high efficacy levels, the use of the right laser device, appropriate settings and customized pre and post-treatment care are crucial. With more Lasers and more efficient versions of existing lasers in the market,the safety profile has been taken care of without compromising the efficacy. Diode lasers along with long pulsed Nd:YAG and Alexandrate are considered as the safest hair removal lasers ,as Ruby and IPL are rarely used these days. However Diode lasers still remain the gold standard in Laser Hair removal.

Materials / method: Some manufactureres believes in In Motion technology while some still follow the stack mode.Offlately there has been emergence of multiple wavelengths from the same handpiece,for example 755,810,1064 nm or 810,940 &1060 nm with the the percentage of each wavelength in a single shot being divided and while there has also been emergence of a laser in the market where two wavelengths namely 755 & 1064nm delivered within the same laser machine, delivering each wavelength according the treating physicians need.This system functions like 2 technologies in one platform.

Conclusion: Multiwavelength platforms seems to be the way forward ,however the basic principles and certain problems like minimal pain,treating thin hair,paradoxical hair growth, white hair removal still remains a challenge.

Objectives: New laser diodes will combine the wavelenght of 755, 810 and 1064 nm with the objective to have more efficiency with high fluencies, high repetition rate, cooling .
- Safe and effective for hair removal ,large spot sizes.
- With less cost of consumables(spray)
- 3 wavelength can target different hair types and different hair depths .
- New diode hair removal lasers increase treatment speed faster than traditional lasers : 10-15 minutes for a complete leg treatment (1 leg).
- You can use modes of static or dynamic treatments .

Introduction: Clinical Evaluation of a Novel Blended Mode Diode Laser for Hair Removal with two different handpieces.
- Diode bars at 755 and 810 nm simultaneously.
Diode bars at 810 and 1064 nm simultaneously.

Materials / method: 50 patients treated with the 755/810 nm handpiece.
50 patients treated with the 810/1064 nm handpiece.

-3 treatments on various body areas were conducted 6 weeks apart .
-Patients were followed up with 6 months after the last treatment.

-Results were evaluated by: baseline, follow-up photographs, and hair counts.

Results: Treatment area photos demonstrated hair reduction in the treated body and facial areas.
- Average hair count reduction at 6 months follow-up was :
84% for the 755/810 nm handpiece and 81% for the 810/1064 nm handpiece.

No significant or unexpected adverse events were detected in any of the patients.

Conclusion: The clinical data presented here demonstrate that the blended mode of wavelengths, 755/810 nm and 810/1064 nm, has proven to be safe and effective for hair removal on light and dark skin.

The use of combination 810 nm and 1064 nm would improve penetration depth and safety for darker skin while maintaining relatively high efficacy of treatment.

Combination of 755 nm and 810 nm would allow optimization of treatment for different hair color

Objectives: To understand how different photo epilation devices can be effective and what it learns us as doctors about fluences to use and the frequency of treatments

Introduction: It has always been fascinating that both our in-office high energy devices as well as the home used low energy devices (HUD’s) are able to achieve long term photo-epilation.

Materials / method: Several studies with HUD’s on large groups of volunteers with different schemes of energies and frequencies were done. Also in-vitro studies with lasers on cultured hair follicles were performed.

Results: From the results a clear hypothesis can be composed about the mechanisms that govern photo-epilation. This has been tested by Monte-Carlo simulation. It seems that the high energy devices give direct necrosis, whereas low fluences trigger catagen transition. Some of these hair follicles will recover, but a percentage will exit the normal anagen – catagen – telogen cycle and will turn to a more or less permanent resting phase.

Conclusion: This is probably the mechanism that governs the efficacy of HUD’s, but may also by the way by which low fluence / high pulse-frequency 810-diode lasers are effective. This method, named in-motion technique, is gaining much popularity in the Netherlands, because of its virtually painless hair removal treatment.
