Introduction: Infectious diseases, cardiovascular disorders and cancer are real health issues, but none of them is foreseen as the major cause of death in ten years form now. The major threat in our society has become premature death due to overdosage of legal antalgics such as codeine, which are regularly prescribed and increasingly consumed. Besides, the greatest stress is represented by life expectancy itself.
Materials / method: The mechanisms of sustained stress have largely been investigated. The imbalance of the parasympathetic/ortosympathetic system, seems related to the deleterious effect of elevated cortisolemia. «Leaky gut syndrome» and its looming companion «sickness syndrome» with loss of interest, difficulty to concentrate, memory lapses, insomnia, chronic fatigue syndrome, obsessional thoughts, social isolation, depression, anxiety, obsessional neurosis. Of course all if these ailments concur to search for some form of relief, ultimately leading to addiction.
Results: The development of interactive tools (such as the nutritional survey platform of the RISTOMED study ) address elderly people, with limited income, poor diet and restricted social interactions as a sensitive target. Growing concern to improve quality of life in the context of increased life expectancy could be benefit from nutraceutic-mediated mood improvement,
Conclusion: In summary, it seems that in order to break the malignant circle of aging-stress-addiction, new digital tools could pave the way towards prevention and a better management of stressful episodes associated to increased life expectancy. Together with an optimized management of mucosal immunity breaking the deleterious effects of the sneaking leaky gut, a welcome reduction of life-threatening behaviours would be obtained.
