Objectives: to compare ultrasound devices that can be used in cosmetic medicin for prevention of intravascualr filler injections, and treatment of complications

Introduction: Doppler Ultrasound (DUS) analysis of the face has become a matter of interest in cosmetic medicine, in particular for injectable fillers. In dealing with complications, it has the advantage of easily visualizing the filler and identifying the problem in relation to the patients anatomy. We expect that in a few years’ time DUS will become standard equipment in cosmetic doctors’ offices.

Materials / method: Having experience for 10 years with different devices, I identified three that are feasible for the cosmetic market, because they are relatively inexpensive and offer good quality for their price.

Results: I will assess each of these three on price, versatility and other practical aspects

Conclusion: Philips Lumify offers a good deal for the daily practice. The device is tablet/mobile phone based. Wisonic Piloter is twice as expensive, tablet based, and gives a sharp image with more functionalities. Samsung HM75A is more than three times as expensive, laptop based, not easily to transport, but a very versatile machine.

Objectives: specificities of 4 ultrasound devices

Introduction: We have a large choice of portable devices but we have noticed an incredible reluctance on the part of institutional manufacturers for the interest of aesthetic medicine.

Our interest is focused on two manufacturers
- Canon, which bought out Toshiba in 2015.
- Hitachi

Materials / method: hitachi

- Arietta prologue © ( 2016): portable-tablet, 18 Mhz- duplex - needle visibiliy
- Noblus© : like a PC /platform, linear 18 & Hockey 14 Mhz- display tissue elasticity
Toshiba - Canon
- Viamo SV7©: tablet / linear 10 Mhz - battery 3 h
- Viamo C100 ©: like a PC / platform -linear 18 Mhz- 3D- needle visibility- fast start

Results: Each device has its own particularities. Duplex is mandatory to visualize the vascular network. The 3D image, the colouring of the different subcutaneous tissues, the tactile screens and an 18 mhz probe with if possible a Hockey shaped one facilitate their use even for a neophyte in cutaneous radiology.

Conclusion: Ultrasound is an indispensable tool for mapping a skin area before or during an injection of fillers. it also allows you to check the result, the correct arrangement of the product and the anatomical variants for each patient in a daily practice.

Objectives: Introdution to ultrasound imaging of facial vascular structures

Introduction: Ultrasound can not only give an insight of the location and depth of subcutaneous structures, it can also be used to identify the course of vascular structures. Using duplex technique it is possible to identify a vessel, visualize flow and even quantify the flow.

Materials / method: a pictorial essay will demonstrate the most important vessels in the face.

Results: As individual vascular variations are known to exist, duplex ultrasound can be used to visualize the vessel course in each specific person before filler treatment. Furthermore Duplex can be used to guide the treatment of an adverse vascular advent.

Conclusion: An in depth knowledge how to read the information of the duplex ultrasound is warranted
