Objectives: - epidemiology and frequency of acne in adult women,
- the holistic and integrative approach to acne in adult women

Introduction: Adult female acne (or acne after adolescence) is defined traditionally by the presence of acne vulgaris lesions after the age of 25 years.
Acne vulgaris is now considered an epidemic in Western countries, affecting 40-54% of the population older than 25 years, especially women.

Materials / method: The effects of acne on quality of life are complex, and the most frequent issues are lack of confidence, social withdrawal, feelings of insecurity and inferiority, limited employment opportunities, functional and interpersonal difficulties at work, and suicidal tendencies.

Results: The benefits of combined treatments are the speed of the effects, reduction of adverse reactions, synergy, and treatments on several skin levels, with simultaneous effects on several skin problems (enlarged pores, seborrhea, pigmentation spots, tonus, texture, laxity, etc.), and concurrent treatments on several involved mechanisms

Conclusion: We need to have an integrative and holistic approach to acne, from diet and skincare to local and general treatments, and to use the newest technologies to improve the quality of life of our patients.

Objectives: The objective is to explain that an Italian Medical Aesthetic Producer, Top Quality Group, which is a very important brand in Italy, is willing to enter, with its many evolved technologies, in the international markets where, for strategic reasons, it is not massively present yet.

Objectives: The objective of the clinical study was to evaluate the anti-aging effects of a nutritive balm on mature facial skin in healthy women over a 56-day study period.

Introduction: At clinical level, mature skin is often characterized by mild to severe dryness, marked wrinkles and alteration of skin appearance in aged individuals. In addition, deregulated skin visco-elasticity leads to lack of firmness. A highly nutritive balm was formulated to target mature skin. The objective of the clinical study was to evaluate the anti-aging effects of a nutritive balm on mature facial skin in healthy women over a 56-day study period.

Materials / method: An open-label IRB approved clinical study was performed, including 32 females ages 55 to 70 of phototype I to III.
The test product was applied twice a day on the whole face for 56 days. Efficacy endpoints were measured using:
1/ bio-instruments (skin hydration, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), biomechanical properties, ultrasound scanning)
2/ image analysis (morphometric analysis)
3/ clinical scoring (radiance, sagging of the face oval shape, crow’s feet and nasolabial wrinkles)
Subjects performed a self-assessment questionnaire. Data points were collected on D0 (baseline), D7, D28 and D56

Results: Versus D0, the moisturizing effect was increased at short term up to 7 days in the cheekbone. TEWL decreased at D7 and D28 in the cheekbone. In the temple, the elastic function of skin (Ur/Ue) was improved in all timepoints while the elastic recovery (Ur/Uf) increased in the long term (D28 and D56). Ultrasound scanning in the crow’s feet area revealed an increase of global dermis density at D28 and global skin thickness at D56. Depth of skin damage affected by photoaging decreased over 56 days. The radiance score in the crow’s feet improved from D7 to D56.

Conclusion: The results from the clinical study suggest that the nutritive balm demonstrated significant improvements of the skin quality in terms of clinical scoring and clinical parameters. In addition, the tolerance was excellent in all completed subjects. The product was also positively assessed by the subjects.

Objectives: The objective of this study is to compare the lifting durability of thread that use spiral and non-spiral design in the middle of the thread. The treatment indication used in this experiment was reducing the length of nasolabial folds (NLF).

Introduction: Sufficient lifting effect in thread lift procedure is highly affected by the thread stability at the anchoring site. Previous study has successfully demonstrated a spiral thread design that was capable to stimulate high level of collagen synthesis. In this study we modified our double-needle thread by inserting a spiral thread design in the middle of the thread (anchoring site) in order to increase the lifting durability.

Materials / method: Twenty patients with a moderate severity of NLF were included in the study. The right side of the NLF was lifted with a spiral thread design and the left side with a non-spiral monofilament thread (control group). Both threads were made of polydioxanone (PDO)-based materials and have bidirectional pyramid cogs design along the suture. The length of the NLF was observed before and immediately after the procedure, and continuously recorded at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months.

Results: The reduced length of NLF was found to be similar at the immediate results of the treatment. A significant difference of NLF length was first observed at the third month after the treatment. These significant differences were increased gradually over time study for all experimental groups. Ultimately, a very significant difference of the results was found at the end of the study which has a mean value of 8.1 mm (SD=5.82) for spiral group and 2.8 mm (SD=3.43) for non-spiral (P ≤0.01). In addition, clinical improvement in both lifting and quality of skin texture was observed in all groups.

Conclusion: The insertion of spiral thread design at the middle site of the thread is effective to increase the durability of lifting effects. Our study suggest that the spiral thread design could provide a better stability of thread fixation and therefore could maintain the lifting results longer than the non-spiral (monofilament) design.
