Objectives: To design a battery of synthetic peptides for the topical treatment of inflammatory diseases, such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and radiodermatitis.
Introduction: Currently, the quality of life of patients with chronic inflammatory skin diseases, patients treated by irradiation, and especially patients with psoriasis, is severely affected, even with psychological problems associated with the continuous irritation and skin lesions of the diseases and treatments. There are other products
that treat inflammatory skin diseases offered by laboratories such as ISDIN,
Leo Pharma, Novartis, Pfizer, etc. However, no cure was found.
Materials / method: Design of peptide mimetics battery, with physiological targets, that prevent inflammation, oxidative stress and cell death associated with these pathologies.
Results: Previous data demonstrate that the peptides proposed have a significant inhibitory effect on the expression of ɣ- H2AX, p-p38 and p-p53 associated with DNA damage induced by radio mimetic drugs such as Bleomycin in cultured HaCat cells (human keratinocytes) and RLE6TN cells (Mouse epithelial cells) in culture stably expressing the different peptides. In addition, studies on genes important for telomerase activity demonstrate that the peptides induce the expression of two associated genes such as TERT and TERC in vitro. Also reduce inflammation in same conditions.
Conclusion: They can be applied topically, with a reduction of undesirable secondary effects
They improve the quality of life of the patients with chronic diseases and they are beneficial for treatment inflammatory diseases under a radiomimetic drug treatment, and reduce inflammation after radiation insult of the cells, we also observe effects on the expression of mesenchymal genes under inflammatory conditions, which is beneficial for wound healing.
